APRIL WEEK 16
This week, we will continue in the Gospel of Luke, covering chapters 9 through 13.
Don’t forget to check out the Rooted Facebook page for a bit more discussion on each chapter.
Discussion Questions:
• Why did Jesus instruct his disciples not to tell anyone that he was the Christ? (Luke 9:18-22)
• Who is your neighbor? And how should you treat them? (Luke 10:25-37)
• What is the sign of Jonah, and what is its significance? (Luke 11:29-33)
• What is Jesus teaching us with the parable of the Rich Fool? (Luke 12:13-21)
• Why were the religious leaders so incensed when Jesus healed a crippled woman on the Sabbath? (Luke 13:10-17)
Some Answers from Last Week's Questions:
• What parallels can you find between Jesus’ time in the wilderness (Lk. 4:1-13) and Israel’s time in the wilderness as they journeyed from Egypt to Canaan? – They both passed through the water and spent 40 years/days being tempted. But while Israel failed the temptations, Jesus did not give in to them.
• When you read the stories of Jesus calling his first disciples (Luke 5:1-11, 27-32), you see that they left everything behind and followed Jesus. What application does that have for his disciples today? – What am I reluctant to give up for him? Is there anything I am unwilling to leave behind?
• What is Jesus referring to when he talks about building our house on a rock? (Luke 6:46-49) – It is basing our lives around His teachings.
• What was significant about the centurion's faith? (Luke 7:9) – He recognized Jesus’ authority and that it was not constrained by distance.
• What does it mean to hear the word of God and do it? (Luke 8:21) – It’s not enough simply to read the Bible and know what it says. If I am not obeying it, I am wasting my time. Jesus is more interested in what is in my heart and reflected in my life than He is in what is in my head.
Prayer: Lord, thank you for meeting me in Your Word today. As I’ve seen who Jesus is and what He teaches, help me to follow Him more closely. Shape my heart to love my neighbor, to trust Your ways over my own, and to value what truly matters. Guard me from simply knowing Your Word without living it. Give me the courage to obey, the wisdom to discern, and the humility to keep growing. Let my life reflect what I’ve learned today. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
