APRIL WEEK 17

This week we will continue in the Gospel of Luke, covering chapters 14 through 18.

Don’t forget to check out the Rooted Facebook page for a bit more discussion on each chapter.

Discussion Questions:

• “In the same way, those of you who do not give up everything you have cannot be my disciples” (Luke 14:33). What does this mean to you?

• In the parable of the Prodigal Son (Luke 15:11-32), who is represented by the father and his two sons?

• In the parable of Lazarus and the Rich Man, what is the significance of Abraham’s final words to the rich man? (Luke 16:27-31)

• Why does Jesus tell us to remember Lot’s wife? (Luke 17:32)

• Jesus said that it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to be saved (Luke 18:25). What did he mean by that?

Some Answers from Last Week's Questions:

• Why did Jesus instruct his disciples not to tell anyone that he was the Christ? (Luke 9:18-22) – He was trying not to be identified as one who would overthrow the Romans, which was what the people expected the Christ to do.

• Who is your neighbor? And how should you treat them? (Luke 10:25-37) – Everyone. With love.

• What is the sign of Jonah, and what is its significance? (Luke 11:29-33) – His three days and nights in the belly of the fish. It pointed ahead to Jesus’s time in the grave, followed by His resurrection.

• What is Jesus teaching us with the parable of the Rich Fool? (Luke 12:13-21) – Be generous with what you have.

• Why were the religious leaders so incensed when Jesus healed a crippled woman on the Sabbath? (Luke 13:10-17) – It was contrary to their traditions and challenged their authority.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, as I walk through Your Word this week in Luke 14–18, open my heart to truly hear You. Teach me what it means to follow You with full surrender - not holding anything back, but trusting You with everything that I am and have. Help me to see myself in Your stories - the lost and found, the proud and the humble, and draw me closer to Your heart. Give me compassion like the Father and a deep awareness of what truly matters in Your Kingdom. Help me not to place my trust in wealth, comfort, or anything that pulls me away from You. Instead, shape in me a faith that is humble, dependent, and fully alive. Amen.
