APRIL WEEK 18

This week, we will continue in the Gospel of Luke, covering chapters 19 through 23.

Don’t forget to check out the Rooted Facebook page for a bit more discussion on each chapter.

Discussion Questions:

• Does Luke 19:12,14-15, 27 have any historical basis? (a Bible commentary would be helpful to answer this question)

• What relevance might Luke 20:25, “Give to Caesar what is Caesar’s and to God what is God’s,” have for us today?

• In Luke 21, Jesus answered questions that his disciples had about the destruction of the temple. What can you take away from Jesus’ answer that will help you in your daily life?

• What does Jesus’ prayer in the garden tell us about him? (Luke 22:41-42)

• Why did Jesus go to the cross?

Some Answers from Last Week's Questions:

• “In the same way, those of you who do not give up everything you have cannot be my disciples” (Luke 14:33). What does this mean to you?  - Jesus is not satisfied with anything less than all of me.

• In the parable of the Prodigal Son (Luke 15:11-32), who is represented by the father and his two sons? – God is the father, the older brother is the self-righteous Pharisee, and the younger brother is a repentant person.

• In the parable of Lazarus and the Rich Man, what is the significance of Abraham’s final words to the rich man? (Luke 16:27-31) – If people will not believe the witness of the Bible, there is no reason to expect that Jesus’ resurrection would convince them.

• Why does Jesus tell us to remember Lot’s wife? (Luke 17:32) – It is a warning to not allow the attraction of this world to keep you from eternal life.

• Jesus said that it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to be saved (Luke 18:25). What did he mean by that? – Whether the eye of a needle is an actual needle or a city gate, salvation is impossible for us to achieve on our own. Even if we appear to be highly blessed of God like the rich.

Prayer: Lord Jesus, thank You for who You are - the King who gave everything for me. Please teach me to give You not just part of my life, but all of it. In times of uncertainty, steady my heart. In surrender, shape my will to match Yours. And as I remember your sacrifice on the cross, remind me of Your deep love for me - a love that changes how I live. So, today, I choose to be fully Yours. Amen.
