AUGUST | WEEK 34
This week, we will continue our journey through Revelation with chapters 6-10. Don’t forget to check out the Rooted Facebook page for a bit more discussion on each chapter.
Discussion Questions:
• What is happening with the opening of the fifth seal? (Rev. 6:9-11) Who are these found under the altar, and what were they told?
• What is the relationship between those John heard were sealed (Rev 7:4) and those that he saw? (Rev. 7:9)
• Where else do you find incense offered on a golden altar? (Rev. 8:3-4) Hint: see Exodus 30:1-10 - And what is the significance of prayers being added to the incense?
• What is the bottomless pit, and what are these locusts that come out of it? (Rev. 9:1-11) Hint: see Luke 8:30-31 (the Abyss = the bottomless pit).
• What will happen when the seventh (and last) trumpet sounds? (Rev. 10:7) See Matthew 24:31, 1 Corinthians 15:52, and 1 Thessalonians 4:16 for help with this.
Some Answers from Last Week's Questions:
• Why should we read Revelation? (Rev. 1:3) – There is a blessing for those who read it and hold its message near to heart.
• Which is better, doctrinal purity, or love? (Rev. 2:2-4) – The church at Ephesus was diligent to maintain doctrinal purity. But, because they had lost their first love (love for Christ), they were in danger of dying.
• What does Jesus mean when he calls the church at Laodicea lukewarm? (Rev. 3:15-17) – Cold water is good. Hot water is good. But lukewarm is not very appealing. Laodicea had so compromised with their culture that they were not good for anything.
• How would you feel about joining in with the heavenly worship service described in Revelation 4:8-11? – It is currently overwhelming to me. But I look forward to being able to freely and joyfully express my worship of God.
• What is the significance of picturing Jesus as both a lion and a slain lamb? (Rev. 5:5-6) – Jesus conquered through the cross, not military might.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, as I read these difficult and mysterious passages, help me see beyond the images and remember that You are still on the throne. When I don’t understand what You are doing, deepen my trust in You. Remind me that You hear my prayers, You are present in every season, and Your purposes will ultimately prevail. Help me live today with faith, courage, and hope in You. Amen.
