FEBRUARY WEEK 7

This week will cover Matthew 28 as well as Hebrews 1-4. If you did Rooted last year, you may remember that we did Hebrews toward the end of the year. But in 2026, we have changed the reading order to something that hopefully is more logical. Matthew is the most Jewish of the gospels, so we have paired it with the most Jewish of the epistles, including Hebrews, James, 1 & 2 Peter, and Jude.

Don’t forget to check out the Rooted Facebook page for a bit more discussion on each chapter.

Discussion Questions:

• What is the significance of the Great Commission? (Mt. 28:18-20) How well are we carrying it out? What could we do better?

• Who is Jesus? (Hebrews 1:1-4)

• Who is Jesus? (Hebrews 2:14-18)

• What does a failure to enter God’s rest mean? And what would cause a person to fail to enter it? (Heb. 3:16-19)

• Could Jesus have sinned? (Heb. 4:14-15)

Some Answers from Last Week's Questions:

• What does this chapter have to say about our ability to resist God's call (Matt. 23:37-39) - Israel is an example of the persistence of God's calling people to Himself, and our ability to reject Him. He does not force us into a relationship with Himself.

• How should we live as we wait for Jesus to return for us (Mt. 24:45-51)? – faithfully serving our Lord in expectation of his return.

• What talents/resources has the Lord given you? And what are you doing with them (Mt. 25:14-30)? – Your own answers

• What does Jesus’ prayer in the garden of Gethsemane tell us about his humanity (My. 26:36-46)? – His humanity was clearly revealed in his desire to avoid the agony of the cross.

• What is the significance of Jesus’ crucifixion and resurrection? – His death became an atoning sacrifice for those who believe, and His resurrection defeated death and gave us hope for the future.
