FEBRUARY WEEK 8

This week will cover Hebrews 5-9. Hebrews combines some of the most explicit teaching about the priesthood of Jesus with numerous encouragements to remain faithful.

Don’t forget to check out the Rooted Facebook page for a bit more discussion on each chapter.

Discussion Questions:

• In what way was Jesus made perfect? (Heb. 5:8-10)

• Is it possible for a true believer to lose their salvation? (Heb. 6:4-6)

• Who is Melchizedek? (Heb. 7:1-3) See also Genesis 14:17-20.

• What are the two covenants mentioned in Hebrews 8:13?

• What are the true things that are referred to in Hebrews 9:24? And what are the copies?

Some Answers from Last Week's Questions:

• What is the significance of the Great Commission? (Mt. 28:18-20) How well are we carrying it out? What could we do better? – Christ has commissioned us to take the gospel to the world and to train up disciples who are obedient to him.

• Who is Jesus (Hebrews 1:1-4)? – He is the divine Son of God, the greatest revelation of God, and superior to the angels.

• Who is Jesus (Hebrews 2:14-18)? – He became a human, just like we are—in every way. And, because of His experience, He can represent us before the Father.

• What does a failure to enter God’s rest mean? And what would cause a person to fail to enter it (Heb. 3:16-19)? – Canaan represented God’s rest for the Exodus generation. It is joining God in His Sabbath-day rest (Gen. 2:2). For us, it is the salvation we look forward to. We fail to enter it through disobedience and lack of faith.

• Could Jesus have sinned (Heb. 4:14-15)? – Many will say no. But if He could not have sinned, then was He really tempted like we are?
