FEBRUARY WEEK 9
This week will cover Hebrews 10-13 and the first chapter of James. Hebrews will close with a discussion about faith and additional encouragements to remain faithful and to live for Christ. James is filled with practical guidance for living the Christian life.
Don’t forget to check out the Rooted Facebook page for a bit more discussion on each chapter.
Discussion Questions:
• What is the curtain that has been opened for us? (Heb. 10:19-20)
• In Hebrews 11, how many times do you find the formula, “By faith someone did something? What is the significance of this expression?
• What is Hebrews 12:1-2 calling on us to do?
• What sacrifices do we have to offer God? (Heb. 13:15-16)
• Why should we respond to the trials we face with joy? (Jam. 1:2-4)
Some Answers from Last Week's Questions:
• In what way was Jesus made perfect? (Heb. 5:8-10) – By going to the cross, He was perfected as the source of our salvation.
• Is it possible for a true believer to lose their salvation? (Heb. 6:4-6) – This is a disputed question. But based on the number of times Hebrews encourages us to remain faithful and warns against falling away, it must be possible.
• Who is Melchizedek? (Heb. 7:1-3) – Melchizedek was a king and priest whom Abraham offered a tithe to (Gen. 14:17-20) and who later became a messianic figure (Ps. 110:4).
• What are the two covenants mentioned in Hebrews 8:13? – The old, or Mosaic, covenant was established at Mt. Sinai. And the new covenant was established at the cross. As believers in the Lord Jesus, we are under the new covenant.
• What are the true things that are referred to in Hebrews 9:24? And what are the copies? – The Tabernacle and its sacrifices were copies of the heavenly tabernacle. The heavenly tabernacle is not a physical structure, but it is where God dwells.
