JANUARY WEEK 2

Welcome to week 2 of Rooted 2026. This week, we'll read Matthew chapters 3 through 7. This will cover the ministry of John the Baptist, Jesus’ wilderness temptations, and the Sermon on the Mount.

Discussion Questions:

• What was the significance of John the Baptist’s clothing and food? (Matt. 3:4) Does it remind you of anyone else? (Hint: an Old Testament prophet).

• What is the significance of Jesus being tempted in the wilderness? (Matt. 4:1-11)

• What did Jesus mean by saying He had come to fulfill the Law and the Prophets? (Matt. 5:17)

• How do you store up treasure in heaven? (Matt. 6:19-21)

• What does Jesus tell us is the distinguishing mark of His true disciples? As opposed to those who just pretend? (Matt. 7:21-23)


Some Answers from Last Week's Questions:

•  How old do you suspect Jesus might have been when the Magi from the East came to visit him? (Matt. 2:9-12) What leads you to suspect that? - Jesus could have been up to two years old when the Magi visited. His family was living in a house. And after asking when the star was seen, Herod ordered the killing of all those under two years old.

•  What was the significance of John the Baptist’s clothing and food? (Matt. 3:4) Does it remind you of anyone else? (Hint: an Old Testament prophet). - John the Baptist dressed like Elijah, the prophet who was prophesied to return and prepare the way for the day of the Lord (Malachi 4:5-6).
