JULY  |  WEEK 29

This week, we will continue on our journey through the Gospel of John, chapters 9-13. Don’t forget to check out the Rooted Facebook page for a bit more discussion on each chapter.

Discussion Questions:

• What does John 9:24-25 have to say to us about sharing our testimony?

• How can we know that we are one of Jesus’ sheep? (John 10:25-28)

• Why do you suppose Jesus wept at Lazarus' tomb? (John 11:35)

• Why are some people reluctant to publicly confess Jesus as their Lord? (John 12:42-43)

• How can we follow Jesus' example of foot washing? (John 13:14-15)

Some Answers from Last Week's Questions:

• How do we worship God in spirit and truth? (John 4:23) – We should worship God, not just with our rituals and words, but in our spirits. Bow before Him in adoration and praise.

• In John 5:24, Jesus said that the one who heard His words and believed in God had eternal life. What does it mean to believe in God? – It means putting your trust in God, giving Him control of your life.

• In John 6:44, Jesus said that no one could come to Him unless they were first drawn by the Father. What does it mean to be drawn by God? And who does God draw? – This refers to the work of the Holy Spirit within the individual, convicting them of sin and enabling them to believe. All people are drawn by the Spirit.

• How can we know that Jesus’ words are from God? (John 7:17) – Jesus’ words will help me to do the will of God. Unlike others, they will lead me closer, not away from Him.

• Why did the Jews get so upset when Jesus told them that He was before Abraham? (John 8:56-59) – The words “I am” are the same words God used to identify himself at Mt Sinai with Moses. They understood Jesus to be saying He was God.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank You for opening my eyes to see who You are and for calling me to follow You. Help me to trust Your voice, boldly share what You have done in my life, and serve others with the same humility and love You showed. May my life point others to You, and may I faithfully walk as one of Your sheep each day. Amen.
