JULY  |  WEEK 30

This week, we will continue on our journey through the Gospel of John, chapters 14-18. Don’t forget to check out the Rooted Facebook page for a bit more discussion on each chapter.

Discussion Questions:

• What does the Holy Spirit do in the life of the believer? (John 14:15-17, 26, 15:26, 16:7, 12-14)

• What does it look like to love one another? (John 15:12-13)

• What does the Holy Spirit do in the world? (John 16:8-11)

• What does it mean for us as fellow believers to become one as Jesus and the Father are one? (John 17:20-21)

• What did Jesus mean when he told Pilate that His kingdom was not of this world? (John 18:33-36)

Some Answers from Last Week's Questions:

• What does John 9:24-25 have to say to us about sharing our testimony? – We do not have to be able to answer all the questions someone might ask. We just need to be able to tell what happened to us.

• How can we know that we are one of Jesus’ sheep? (John 10:25-28) – We hear what He says, and we follow Him. Only Jesus’ sheep will follow Him.

• Why do you suppose Jesus wept at Lazarus' tomb? (John 11:35) – There are a number of possible answers. Jesus was human and experienced human emotion. He was grieving with the sisters. And He knew that He was bringing Lazarus back from a good place into a world of trouble.

• Why are some people reluctant to publicly confess Jesus as their Lord (John 12:42-43)? – They are too concerned about what other people think.

• How can we follow Jesus' example of foot washing (John 13:14-15)? – Any act of service within the church or to other people. When we humble ourselves and do a thankless task, we have followed His example.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank You for inviting me to know You more deeply through Your Word. As I read these chapters, open my heart to the work of Your Holy Spirit. Show me where I need to trust Your voice, love others more like Jesus, pursue unity instead of division, and live as a citizen of Your kingdom rather than this world. Change me from the inside out, so that my life reflects Christ more each day. Amen.
