MARCH WEEK 11

This week will cover 1 Peter 2-5 and the first chapter of 2 Peter. In his first letter, Peter writes to a suffering church, encouraging them to remain faithful in the suffering and count themselves blessed. 2 Peter opens with an encouragement to remain faithful.

Don’t forget to check out the Rooted Facebook page for a bit more discussion on each chapter.

Discussion Questions:

• Compare 1 Peter 2:9-10 with Exodus 19:5-6. What does this reveal about Peter's perspective on his Gentile audience?

• What does it mean to always be prepared to give a defense for the hope that you have? (1 Pet. 3:14-16)

• How should we respond to suffering and insult because we are Christians? (1 Pet. 4:12-14)

• Who is our adversary, what is he trying to do, and how should we respond? (1 Pet. 5:8-9)

• How can we guarantee we are fruitful in the Lord’s work? (2 Peter 1:5-8)

Some Answers from Last Week's Questions:

• What is the relationship between faith and works? (Jam. 2:17) – Our works should naturally flow out of our faith. If they do not, then our faith is dead and useless.

• What is the difference between earthly and heavenly wisdom? (Jam. 3:13-18) – Earthly wisdom is divisive and destructive to the unity of the body of Christ. Heavenly wisdom cares about others and builds up rather than tearing down.

• What does James have to say to us concerning making plans for our future (Jam. 4:13-16)?  - We need to be careful to include God in our plans and always be ready to change them if He leads otherwise.

• What can our prayers do? (Jam. 5:16-18) – James tells us that the prayer of a righteous person can accomplish a lot. And he used Elijah as an example. God encourages us to pray. And, in prayer, He allows us to participate in the management of His creation.

• What advantage is there in the trials we face as believers? (1 Pet. 1:6-7) – Like the refinement of silver or gold, our trials purify our faith. And, in the end, result in praise, honor, and glory.
