MAY WEEK 19
This week will continue Luke’s writings, finishing up the Gospel of Luke and beginning the Acts of the Apostles.
Don’t forget to check out the Rooted Facebook page for a bit more discussion on each chapter.
Discussion Questions:
• How important is Jesus’ resurrection? (Luke 24)
• When is Jesus returning? (Acts 1:6-7)
• What did the early church do? And what were the results? (Acts 2:42-47)
• What can we learn from Peter’s words to the lame beggar? (Acts 3:6)
• How would you respond if someone (including our government) told you not to talk about Jesus? (Acts 4:18-20)
Some Answers from Last Week's Questions:
• Does Luke 19:12,14-15, 27 have any historical basis? You may need to refer to a commentary to answer this. – It would seem to refer to Archelaus, a son of Herod the Great. He went to Rome to be crowned king, a Jewish delegation went to protest that, and he exacted revenge when he returned.
• What relevance might Luke 20:25, “Give to Caesar what is Caesar’s and to God what is God’s,” have for us today? – I am under a human government and should obey them unless they overstep the bounds God has set for them.
• In Luke 21, Jesus answered questions that his disciples had about the destruction of the temple. What can you take away from Jesus’ answer that will help you in your daily life? – For me, verse 19, “Stand firm, and you will win life.” Don’t give up. Victory comes to those who are faithful.
• What does Jesus’ prayer in the garden tell us about him (Luke 22:41-42)? – It reveals his humanness but also his submission to the Father.
• Why did Jesus go to the cross? – As the atoning sacrifice for the sins of the world (1 John 2:2).
Prayer: Lord, I come with a quiet heart, ready to listen. As I read about Your resurrection and the beginning of Your church, help me to not just understand - but help me to believe more deeply. Open my eyes to who You are, and what You’re inviting me into. Give me courage like the early believers - to trust You, to follow You, and to speak of You without fear. Shape my heart through Your Word. Let Your Spirit lead me. Speak, Lord…I’m listening. Amen.
