MAY WEEK 22

This week, we will continue our journey through the Acts of the Apostles.

Don’t forget to check out the Rooted Facebook page for a bit more discussion on each chapter.

Discussion Questions:

• What is the significance for us today of the Jerusalem council? (Acts 15:4-11)

• What do we need to do in order to be saved? (Acts 16:30-31) And what does it mean to believe?

• What lesson can we learn from the Jews in Berea? (Acts 17:10-11)

• Why was Paul innocent of the blood of the Corinthian Jews? (Acts 18:6) Hint: See Ezekiel 3:16-21.

• The response of the demon to the sons of Sceva is somewhat comical. But what might that demon have to say about you? (Acts 19:13-16)

Some Answers from Last Week's Questions:

• What does it mean that God shows no partiality? (Acts 10:34-35) – God does not favor Jews over Gentiles, men over women, or any other way that we divide people. God wants all of us to come to him and be saved.

• What is the significance of the believers in Antioch being first called Christians? (Acts 11:25-26) – It was likely a term of derision that they proudly accepted. They were little Christ’s.

• Are you ever surprised by the way God might answer your prayers? (Acts 12:12-16) – Unfortunately, I do not always expect an answer and so am sometimes surprised when it comes.

• Why do you suppose Saul began to use his Roman name of Paul? (Acts 13:9) – It allowed him to better fit in with the Gentile culture he was reaching out to.

• When Paul and Barnabas came to Lystra and healed a man, why did the crowd identify them as Zeus and Hermes? (Acts 14:8-13) - Likely because of a legend where those two gods had come to town and not been recognized. They did not want to make that mistake again.

Prayer:
Jesus, as I read Your Word this week, open my heart to hear Your voice. Give me a faith that is real - not just something I know about, but something I truly live out. Help me to search for truth, trust in Your grace, and follow You with courage each day. Holy Spirit, teach me, challenge me, and draw me closer to You through these passages.
Amen.
