OCTOBER  |  WEEK 43

This week, we begin Paul’s letter to the Romans, chapters 1-5. Don’t forget to check out the Rooted Facebook page for a bit more discussion on each chapter.

Discussion Questions:

• Why is not hearing the gospel a valid excuse for not believing in God? (Rom. 1:18-21)

• What law do the Gentiles have? (Rom. 2:14-16)

• What does it mean to be justified freely by grace? (Rom. 3:23-24)

• Why did God declare Abraham to be righteous? (Rom. 4:3-5)

•Why can we rejoice in our suffering? (Rom. 5:3-5)

Some Answers from Last Week's Questions:

• How can the widow’s two cents be more than the large sums others put into the offering box? (Mark 12:41-44) – God’s math is different than ours. It is our generosity that He is interested in. Giving our all, even if just a little, is more than giving out of our surplus.

• What does Jesus mean when He tells us to stay awake in Mark 13:32-37? – We do not know when Jesus is returning. So we should always be prepared. Always be doing the work He has given us to do.

• What is the significance of the streaker in Mark 14:51-52? – It may have been Mark, saying, “I was there.”

• What would be the consequences for us if Jesus had saved Himself and come down off the cross? (Mark 15:31-32) – We would still be lost in our sins.

• Many translations note that Mark 16:9-20 was not in the original writing. Why is that? – Because that ending is not in the oldest manuscripts we have available to us. It appears to have been a later scribal addition.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank You for loving me even when I fall short. Remind me that I cannot earn Your grace, but that You freely offer it through Jesus. Help me to trust You as Abraham did, and to find hope even in difficult seasons, knowing You are shaping my character and strengthening my faith. May Your love guide my thoughts, my choices, and the way I treat others each day. Amen.
