AUGUST | WEEK 32
This week, we will finish our journey through the book of Isaiah, looking at chapters 63-66. We will close out the week by visiting the Psalms again, starting with Psalm 22. Don’t forget to check out the Rooted Facebook page for a bit more discussion on each chapter.
Discussion Questions:
• Following the example of Isaiah 63:7, recount all that the Lord has done for you?
• What does the potter and clay analogy teach us (Isa. 64:8)?
• What does Isaiah 65:17-18 picture?
• What event(s) in the New Testament is (are) pictured in Isaiah 65:18-21?
• What is pictured in Psalm 22:12-18? Hint: see Matthew 27:32-44.
Some Answers to Last Week's Questions:
• What kind of fast is pleasing to God (Isa. 58:6-7)? – A fast where we share our bread with the hungry and care for the needy.
• Why does God sometimes not answer our prayers (Isa. 59:1-2)? – Because our sin has separated us from God. We should not expect to be able to act in disregard of God’s instructions and still have Him answer our prayers.
• What is God saying to Israel in Isaiah 60:1-3? – This passage is looking forward to a time when the light of God’s glory will shine out from Israel, drawing people from all over the world to that light.
• Who is referred to in Isaiah 61:1-2? Where do you find this prophecy fulfilled? – Jesus read from this passage in Luke 4:18-19 and announced that it was fulfilled in Him.
• What can we learn from Isaiah 62:6-7? – Persistence in prayer is a good thing. God actually tells us to do it. And Jesus mirrors this in Luke 18:1-8.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank You for Your faithfulness and for the countless ways You have shown me Your mercy. As I finish Isaiah, keep my heart soft like clay in the Potter's hands, shaping me into who You want me to be. As I read Psalm 22 and remember Jesus' suffering for me, fill me with gratitude and hope in the new life You have promised. Help me to trust You more and faithfully follow You each day. Amen.
