JULY | WEEK 29
This week, we will continue our journey through the book of Isaiah, looking at chapters 48-52. Don’t forget to check out the Rooted Facebook page for a bit more discussion on each chapter.
Discussion Questions:
• What is God's lament in Isaiah 48:17-19?
• Who is being spoken of in Isaiah 49:5-6? And what is he going to do?
• What is the contrast between verses 10 and 11 of Isaiah 50? What two kinds of people are mentioned? And their future?
• Who is God talking to in Isaiah 51:7-8? And what is His message to them?
• What is the good news that is referred to in Isaiah 52:7? Is it the same for us today?
Some Answers to Last Week's Questions:
• What are God’s feelings toward Israel? (Isa. 43:1-4) – He had created them, called them, and claimed them as His own. They were precious to Him.
• What does Isaiah 44:3-5 appear to point toward? – This sounds like the coming of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost and the Gentile mission that came soon after.
• Who is being referred to in Isaiah 45:4-6? And what does this say about who God uses? – Cyrus the Great of Persia. God uses even those who do not know Him. There is no one that God cannot use to accomplish His purpose.
• What contrast is found in Isaiah 46:1-4? – Between idols, that are dependent on people to carry them around, and God, who carries His people.
• Why did God punish Babylon after He had used them to discipline His people? (Isa. 47:5-7) – Because of the lack of mercy they showed. That God used them does not excuse their actions. Actions that they freely chose.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank You for being a God who lovingly teaches me what is best and faithfully leads me in the way I should go. Help me to trust Your voice, even when the path is uncertain or difficult. Give me the courage to stand firm without fear and the willingness to share the good news of Your salvation with those around me. May my life reflect Your faithfulness, point others to You, and bring hope wherever I go. Amen.
