MAY WEEK 23

This week, we will spend time in the Psalms.

Don’t forget to check out the Rooted Facebook page for a bit more discussion on each chapter.

Discussion Questions:

• What gives the psalmist confidence that he will not be shaken? (Psa. 16:8)

• What is the psalmist alluding to when he refers to being hidden in the shadow of God’s wings? (Psalm 17:8)

• What kind of picture is painted in Psalm 18:6-12?

• How does the voice of creation go out into all the world? (Psa. 19:1-4)

• Why trust in God rather than in human strength and wisdom? (Psa. 20:7-8)

Some Answers to Last Week's Questions:

• Who are some of Hezekiah’s descendants who found themselves in service to the king of Babylon? (Isa. 39:7, Dan. 1:3-7) – Daniel, Hananiah (Shadrach), Mishael (Meshach), and Azariah (Abednego).

• What is the lament of the psalmist in Psalm 12:1-5? – It seemed like the whole world had “gone to hell in a handbasket”.

• What is the psalmist's prayer in Psalm 13:1-2? What can we learn from this? – God seemed far away during a time of distress. This psalm tells us that it is OK to bring our complaints to God. So long as we continue to trust in Him (Psa. 13:5).

• Who is the fool in Psalm 14:1? And what is it that makes them a fool? – The one who says in his heart that there is no God. While they may claim to believe in God, they are functional atheists, living as if God did not exist.

• Who can dwell in the house of God? (Psa. 15:1-3)  - The one who lives a righteous life. Something that can only be done with the aid of the Holy Spirit.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank You for being my refuge and strength. When life feels uncertain, help me keep my eyes fixed on You so that I will not be shaken. Hide me in the shadow of Your wings and remind me that I am safe in Your care. Please teach me to trust in You more than my own strength, wisdom, or plans. May my life reflect Your presence, and may my confidence rest in You alone. I pray this in Jesus’ name, Amen.
