JUNE WEEK 24

This week, we will finish our brief foray into the Psalms (Psa. 21) and then begin the book of Daniel (Dan. 1-4).

Don’t forget to check out the Rooted Facebook page for a bit more discussion on each chapter.

Discussion Questions:

• What kept the king from being moved? (Psa. 21:7) Does this work for you as well?

• How would eating the king’s food and drinking his wine defile Daniel? (Dan. 1:8)

• What is symbolized by the great rock that broke the statue? (Dan. 2:34-35, 44-45)

• Who was the fourth person in the furnace with Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego? (Dan. 3:25) How is that relevant to us today?

• Why did Nebuchadnezzar suffer a period of insanity? (Dan. 4:28:34)

Some Answers to Last Week's Questions:

• What gives the psalmist confidence that he will not be shaken? (Psa. 16:8) – Because of the place of honor and trust he has given to God.

• What is the psalmist alluding to when he refers to being hidden in the shadow of God’s wings? (Psalm 17:8) – As a momma bird will shield her chicks under her wings when danger approaches, so we can trust in God’s sheltering protection.

• What kind of picture is painted in Psalm 18:6-12? – The psalmist found himself in danger and cried out to God. And God responded in a mighty way. Not literally flying on a cherub, but without delay and with power.

• How does the voice of creation go out into all the world? (Psa. 19:1-4) – The majesty and glory of creation proclaims the greatness of its creator.

Why trust in God rather than in human strength and wisdom? (Psa. 20:7-8) – Human strength and wisdom can fail and let us down. God never will.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank you for being my strength and security. Help me keep my trust in You so that I will not be shaken. Remind me that I am safe in Your care, that You hear my prayers, and that Your power never fails. Open my eyes to see Your glory and teach me to rely on You more than on my own strength. I pray this in Jesus’ name - Amen.
