MARCH WEEK 12

This week, we will be reading from the Psalms, chapters 3 through 7. These psalms are all attributed to David.

Discussion Questions:

As you read this week, here are some questions to help you explore the truths contained in these chapters.

• Why do we not need to fear when people oppose us for being faithful to our Lord? (Psalm 3:3-6)

• Why can we sleep in peace? (Psalm 4:8)

• How do you feel about David’s cry that God would judge the wicked? (Psalm 5:10)

• Do you ever feel like your prayers are not getting through and troubles are overwhelming you? (Psalm 6:1-7)

• What can we learn from God’s arming himself for battle? (Psalm 7:10-13)

Some Answers to Last Week's Questions:

• What is the significance of Jacob claiming Joseph’s two sons as his own? (Gen. 48:5) – Because Joseph’s two sons were adopted by Jacob, Joseph ended up with a double portion (two tribes) in the inheritance, essentially replacing Reuben as the firstborn.

• What led to Jacob’s negative blessing toward Simeon and Levi? (Gen. 49:5-7) And that ended up happening to their tribes? – Simeon and Levi were responsible for the slaughter of the town of Shechem and its inhabitants because of their anger over the rape of their sister. Levi ended up with no land allocation. And Simeon’s allocation was within Judah, eventually being absorbed by Judah.

• Why were Joseph’s brothers still concerned about what he might do to them now that their father had died? (Gen. 50:15-18) – Even though Joseph had forgiven them, they apparently had not forgiven themselves and still felt guilt over what they had done.

• What is the significance of comparing a righteous person to a tree planted near water? (Psalm 1:1-3) – Like a tree planted by streams of water is immune to drought, so the righteous person will prosper in God’s kingdom.

• How does God respond to those who reject his sovereignty? (Psalm 2:4-6) – He laughs at them in their presumptiveness, thinking they can safely defy him when they are nothing.
