MAY WEEK 21
This week, we will continue through the first half of Isaiah, covering chapters 34 through 38.
Don’t forget to check out the Rooted Facebook page for a bit more discussion on each chapter.
Discussion Questions:
• What does it mean that God shows no partiality? (Acts 10:34-35)
• What is the significance of the believers in Antioch being first called Christians? (Acts 11:25-26)
• Are you ever surprised by the way God might answer your prayers? (Acts 12:12-16)
• Why do you suppose Saul began to use his Roman name of Paul? (Acts 13:9)
• When Paul and Barnabas came to Lystra and healed a man, why did the crowd identify them as Zeus and Hermes? (Acts 14:8-13) (Hint: the story in this link seems related: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Baucis_and_Philemon)
Some Answers to Last Week's Questions:
• Who is Ariel? (Isa. 29:1-2) - Ariel is a name that means ‘lion of God’ and is used to refer to the city of Jerusalem.
• How tempting is it to be one of the people described in Isaiah 30:9-11? – There is a temptation not to listen to what God says to us. His instruction is often contrary to our human desires and plans.
• What happens when we seek help from human sources rather than God? (Isa. 31:1) – Things may not go well for us. Only when we trust in God can we be assured of His protection.
• What might God be saying to us in His message to complacent women? (Isa. 32:9-10) – There is no guarantee for tomorrow. Living as if tomorrow and your future plans are assured can set you up for disappointment or worse.
• Who can dwell with God’s consuming fire? (Isa. 33:14-16) – The one whose walk and words are righteous.
Prayer: Lord, as I continue through Isaiah this week, help me not just to read Your Word, but to truly hear You through it. When I’m tempted to trust my own plans or lean on other things for security, remind me that You alone are faithful and trustworthy. Lead me on Your Way of Holiness, shape my heart through Your truth, and give me confidence that You still hear and answer prayer. Draw me closer to You with every chapter I read. In Jesus’ name, amen.
