This partial week will get us started on the book of Judges. This will be a good time to jump back in if you have fallen behind. Don’t forget to check out the Rooted Facebook page for a bit more discussion on each chapter.


Discussion Questions:

• Judges 1 describes the individual tribes' attempts to claim their land and drive out the Canaanites. What were the results?

• What is the cycle described in Judges 2:11-19?



Some Answers to Last Week's Questions:

• Why did the western tribes object to the altar that the eastern tribes built when they returned home? (Josh 22:10-12) – They were afraid that the eastern tribes were abandoning worship of the Lord according to the law of Moses. With a result similar to what happened when Achan sinned, and the whole nation suffered.

• Why were the tribes of Israel ultimately unable to destroy all of the peoples who preceded them in Canaan? (Josh. 23:9-13) – Because they settled down with them, intermarried with them, and worshipped their gods.

• What is the significance of the three burials at the end of Joshua? (Josh. 24:29-33) – It was the end of an era. Joshua and Eleazar were the last of the Exodus generation who had seen all God had done for them. And Joseph’s burial brought closure to the patriarchal era.


Prayer: Heavenly Father, help me recognize the places where I have settled for partial obedience or slowly drifted from You. Keep my heart from following the patterns of the world around me. Help me remember Your faithfulness, trust Your Word, and follow You wholeheartedly. When I wander, draw me back to You and keep my life rooted in Your grace. Amen.
